Lyle M. Slack II
I would have to say that my professional interests revolve around the need to help college students realize
their dreams for a college education. Through direct services, my major goal is to keep "hope" alive for
students dealing with a sometimes unpredictable, yet always rigorous, academic setting. Managing basic student
study skill does not seem like a glamorous endeavor, but I find that the simplest of study skill changes can
often make the difference. These simple changes often solidify a student's desire to be actively involved with
the higher education process. I feel that it is incumbent upon student affairs personnel to address each student
encounter with a sense of proactive responsibility, which best keeps that student's educational hopes and dreams
alive. There are three distinctive joys and driving forces that characterize how and why I work with students at
Texas A&M University. Not necessarily placed in any ranked order, the first would have to be my children. If
anything makes you question and react to the constructs of this world, your children will. The second would be
the wonderful experiences I had as a student while here at Texas A&M University. The third is the constant
fulfillment I receive by helping others to experience the success that Texas A&M University has to offer. This
professional commitment also strongly parallels my personal devotion in serving people, as is benchmarked by my
faith.
